Anthroposophy and the Inner Life

9 lectures by Rudolf Steiner

These lectures, given shortly after the Christmas Foundation Meeting of December 1923, reformulate the essence of anthroposophy in a condensed, personal, and experiential perspective. What Steiner presented descriptively and systematically in Theosophy, is complemented in these lectures with illustrative clarity.

Anthroposophy and the Inner Life lecture series was given to an audience which had been studying anthroposophy, or spiritual science, for many years, they were described by Rudolf Steiner as an ‘Introductory Course’.
As the wide-ranging contents reveal, his gaze was clearly fixed on Western humanity in general, and Steiner, one of the most important spiritual teachers of the 20th century, felt it was vital to describe from many standpoints the aims and character of anthroposophy as the approach to spiritual knowledge that is the most appropriate for our time. Most importantly, he strove to reveal the esoteric in an exoteric way, for this, he believed, is what the crisis of the 20th century demands.
In these lectures, given at Dornach in Switzerland about a year before his death, Steiner studies the implications of our human condition, particularly our inner natures, and encourages the reader to consider the possibilities that spiritual science can unfold for us. The subjects include: the transition from ordinary knowledge to the science of initiation; meditation and inspiration; love, intuition and the human ego; dream-life and external reality; imaginative cognition and the building of destiny; phases of memory and the real self.
